Waterton Park Hotel is near Wakefield just 15-20 minutes from the M1, junction 39. It is made up of a hotel (Waterton Park) and a bridge to Walton Hall on a small island. Your room could be in either venue just a short walk across the bridge. It is an ideal venue for a wedding, a golfing or spa break or afternoon tea. The hotel seems to be used widely for conferences and training. It was £155 for a double room for one night. Our room was spacious and attractive with a comfortable bed. Sound proofing was excellent: no noisy neighbours to either side or above.
We ate at Charlie’s Bar which had a good variety of starters, mains and desserts of good quality. Our meal for two, of three courses and a bottle of wine, cost £78.
Breakfast is not included in the room price: it is £15 each for an all you can eat buffet-style breakfast. You won’t need lunch!
The venue has a golf course, swimming pool and small spa. The grounds are lovely. A highlight was spotting a heron looking for fish in the water surrounding the hall!
